Does the ThinkPad X300 6476-CTO have IWS? The link is down..:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=LOOK-IWS#sw
If it has IWS, and I purchase it with extended on-site warranty, will this also be IWS?
Trouble is that the US shop of Lenovo doesn't ship to Europe. Maybe it's possible to buy it under my own name but to let it ship to a friend of mine in the US and let him send it to me
. But I don't know if that is possible with the lenovo US-shop (edit: is seems possible with paypal
).

Just curious: how much is the X300 at the Lenovo store / the Netherlands? -
Thanks.
So IWS doesn't guarantee that it supports Europe? That's very strange. I will try to contact the US-shop, but I tried before and couldn't get connected.
@lenovo netherlands shop the X300 costs 2874 dollar.
@webshops in the netherlands the cheapest is 2100 dollar.
So it saves me a lot of money, but warranty is important for me. Maybe if it isn't too much trouble for someone in the US to call the Lenovo shop for me to ask if this IWS also coveres Europe?
-
IWS-lookup will probaly be up again in a few hours.
But +2000 US$ is quite expensive, isn't it? In germany you could get it for 1200€ or even 1000€ if you'r ok with demopool-units. -
Regarding the price differential, don't forget to take into consideration that you'll need to pay 19% VAT of the declared value if you import the notebook (i.e. have it sent to you by mail/courier service) from the United States.

IWS-lookup is back again, Tommy.
-
aaah that's nice, but for me it isn't
, they keep it as a surprise for me
-
Sorry to disappoint you... IWS lookup works for me now and as expected... warranty not valid anywhere in Europe for 6476.

@Dawn, thanks a bunch for helping me out. It makes my choices easier and faster. I decided to take the shot.
However, I tried to order the x300, but Lenovo doesn't accept my postal code via Paypal. So it seems you can only purchase when you live in the US? -
I used a mail forwarding agent to get a valid delivery address in the U.S. You may have a look at Shipito for instance, which provides this kind of service. I cannot give any personal reference though, as I selected a different company for my order - its website is only in Czech language, therefore I'm not giving the link.
I filled the U.S. address in the order form both for billing and delivery purposes. Payment was accepted from my PayPal account, even though it's registered in Czech Republic. Luckily, I haven't run into any troubles... it took two days for my notebook to be built and two days to have it delivered from China to San Francisco. The mail forwarding agent then packed the notebook in a box filled with foam and polystyrene and sent it to me via EMS. It took about two weeks for the package to arrive and for me to claim it from the customs.
I'm not sure if it helps, but I've ordered my notebook through this link. It lets you configure different models as compared to the standard Lenovo's U.S. on-line shop, apparently ones with a 3 year IWS warranty. Don't ask me what kind of link / shop that is, I don't know. I found it in a Czech forum devoted to notebooks without any further details. Unfortunately, the website seems to be flawed and broken for some time now, i.e. erroneous prices, missing models, etc. -
That's some really usefull information Dawn, thanks! I already found a solution for the billing/shipping problem. My brother seems to have some contacts in the U.S. which does the same as 'shipito', so that's ok.
That link you've provided indeed brings me to x300 models which do have IWS including my country! But these models are more expensive too. So that's a decision I have to make for myself.
Again, thanks for all the assistance! -
I decided not to purchase, since the lack of warranty. I have a T400 already (not happy with it), so it's a expensive joke to buy a X300 and than it must have warranty
.
Dawn, that link you gave me has changed since today! It has the same models now as this link, so also with the limited IWS. Strange. Via that link, yesterday, I could also configure the x301 with regular HDD but that's not possible anymore. -
I bought my T400 at the beginning of October during Lenovo's Anniversary Sale. Contrary to your experience, I must say that I'm pretty satisfied with it so far. I'm sorry it didn't work for you. Anyway, the link I've posted above carried the same prices as the regular Lenovo online shop at that time. So with the discounts and coupon available I was able to get an amazing deal for a rather high specced configuration. Since then the shop appears to be either broken or improperly updated.
It doesn't seem though to have changed since yesterday (I still see the option for a regular 120GB HDD for X301). You must not click on the "Products" menu at the top of the page, because that would take you to the standard shop.
I wanted to advise you against buying without warranty as well, repairs could get very costly. If you haven't abandoned the idea completely, you may try to research with some U.S. resellers (on-line shops, eBay sellers). Many offer pre-configured models eligible for IWS and ship directly to Europe. -
Wow you're right. I didn't navigate the right way! You have to use the navigation at about the middle of the page to the right. My mistake
. Thanks for the Ebay tip, I will look around.

Hi!
I'm trying to use that link. Altough some laptops are there and available, the T400 costs 101,059 USD!!!!! Does anyone know where this link came from, and if there are any chances to get it fixed to the real price (I think its 1,059 USD)? The other laptops show reasonable prices, so I think that the page still works...
Thank you! -
