Greetings,
I am interested in buying this particular Thinpkad model, even though it has no bluetooth, as the others do. Anyway are there any happy users of this model on the forum?
I have one question to ask - performance. Well, I dont know what to expect from 1.1ghz model, even tough its pentium-m (which I heard its preety powerfull).
At the beginning I must say, I dont need much power. My designated os is Gentoo Linux, and I usually work under console; programming, etc. Sometimes I use Gnome.
But heres the main concern. I am a great fan of anime movies ^^ and the new video codec, h.264 recently incresed in popularity. But as new as it is, it requires some power. I've read that pIII 1ghz is not enough, but pIII 1.2ghz is fine.
Thats why I would like to ask about the performance.
Is there much diffreance between 1.1ghz model and 1.4ghz model?
Also, how much will it last on 4cell battery?
I was planning to get one with the smallest battery and then buy extended life (I tought that having 8cell and extended life is just too much);
I am starting my studies soon, I am going to study computer science. So I need light, light, light computer to carry with me.
I was also thinking about x31/32 but I didnt see it in real, so I cant decide... I have however seen x40, and it was a love at the first sight![]()
I would be greatfull for any help,
Maciek

Performance wise the x32 is going to be much better. The x40 uses a 1.8" hard drive which only comes in 4200RPM speed. The x32 uses a standard hard drive and the base is 5400RPM. It makes a big difference in performance. Plus the x32 uses regular Dothan Pentium M not the ULV Pentium M in the x40. Battery life in the x40 with the standard four cell battery is 2-2.5 hours. You can upgrade to the larger eight cell battery, but that also increases the weight, making it close to the x32. Good Luck.

hey Maciek, I have the X41 and it has a 1.5GHz processor. You'll get the performance you need from a 1.1GHz processor (the Pentium M certainly outclocks a 1.1GHz Pentium III), but it won't be blazing fast and you certainly won't be able to play more recent games on it. If you really crave portability then the X40 is the lightest ThinkPad out there (2.7lbs) and it is best for you. With the 4-cell battery though you'll only get a couple of hours of battery life, maybe 2.5. With an 8-cell you'll get 4 - 4.5 hours (this is what I get with mine). I love portability but find that having the 8-cell is much better so I can be away from a power outlet for longer amounts of time.
The X31/X32 is a lot like the X40, and for a Computer Science student I think it'd be a great machine...it's heavier than the X40 but it's still very portable. Click on the reviews tab of this site to find reviews on the X31 and X32. -
Theres nice deal on US Lenovo atm:

Operating system: Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition 73P2890 1
Display type: 12.1 inch XGA (1024x768) TFT Display (Standard) 1
Memory: ThinkPad 512MB Mobile Integrated Memory (Standard) 1
Graphics: Intel Extreme Graphics 2 (Standard) 1
Hard drive: 40GB Mini Hard Drive 22P7183 1

Integrated WiFi wireless LAN adapters: 11a/b/g Wireless LAN Mini-PCI Adapter II 73P4304 1
Battery: ThinkPad X40 Series 4-Cell Li-Ion Battery 73P3575 1
Its customized. Ive cut costs by adding xp home (I wont use it anyway, never) and 4cell battery (its 100$ less than 8cell... for 130$ I have 12cell which I would like to buy and use with my 4cell one if i need more battery time)
I think its nice set and I could buy it, but isnt 1.5ghz too much? Wont it be too hot? Can I cut down speed?
Well, is it possible to adjust speed freely (like in normal pc's)?
What do you think about it? -
Don't worry, as long as you set the speed to "adaptive", the processor will only be at 1.5 GHz when it needs the power. My 1.7 GHz runs pretty cool at 39C idle. The 1.5 GHz may do even better.

Thanks.
This offer is really nice (however I would rather like X41, because of the "garbage" problem in X40 series, but X41 is to expensive), because the configuration mentioned above sells for 1390. Im not in the US tough, I need ask my friend to ship it to me. And theres some additional sales tax, isnt it? Does anyone know how much is it for New York City?
