I just received my new X61 and there are two things bothers me: :(

    1) the 65w power adapter makes strange high pitch noise, especially when the machine is doing something which draws a lot of power (DVD-ROM spinning up, running CPU intensive programs, etc). I don't know if anyone else is having the same problem.

    2) I can see a flat dark cable below the LCD (somewhere between the logo "X61 Lenovo" and the wifi LED at the bottom of the screen), which I assume is the cable connected from the video card to the LCD. I found the cable sits there without any cover/protection  , which makes it very easy to be broken. I don't know if this is normal for X61 or there is something missing here.

    Anyone?

Update: I called Lenovo and they sent me a new power adapter which works fine and quite.

When/where did you order? I'm still waiting on mine.

June 8th, the initial shipping date was 6/27, and was changed to 7/17, 7/22, but yesterday I received an email saying that it was shipped, and I received it this morning.

    1. Nothing to be worried about. Same thing on X60-series. We have a few of them; some are noisy and some not. When the adapter is new, it usually sounds more than the older ones.

    2. Scary, ha? ;-) They are pretty fragile. We do not have X61 laptops ourselves, but they are pretty similar to X60s (if you compare the pictures anyway..!)

You don't need to be worried about the exposed ribbon cable for the LCD. This is the same design on the X60s and I haven't read any reports of the cable being severed accidentally.

Just don't go haphazardly throwing ninja stars around or hold a box cutter while typing and you'll be fine.

That's fantastic. I ordered a day after you, June 9, hopefully it'll get here soon!

This is the regular X61, right? Mind posting your configuration?

Anyway, I just can't stand the noise from the power adapter, and will call Lenovo on Monday. It's just so annoying. I put it 4 feet away and it is still louder than the hard drive+fan, I already have some headache after 1 hour of use. This X61 will be my wife's everyday laptop and if the noise can't be fixed I will have to return it and get her a Dell XPS. :(

Sounds good. My wife will be the one that uses this laptop and I'm sure she won't throwing ninja stars while typing. :D
