    Thinkpad Yoga 370 battery on 260?

    Assuming both are genuine Lenovo. Dimensions and shape are absolutely the same.

    370 battery: 15.28V 51Wh (FRU 01AV433)
    260 battery: 15.2V 44Wh (FRU 00HW027)

    Is there any particular reason why it definitely won't work? I'm really on the verge of ordering one and trying for myself, but I'm not sure how does embedded controller (EC) determine if the battery plugged is correct, and not really want to waste time if the idea is doomed to failure because some technical quirk I am not aware of - hence the question.

    Why: while 370 is newer, it has glossy PWM display which ain't bonded with digitizer vs bonded matte PWM-free on 260. 260's weakest spot, on the other hand, is poor battery life - larger 370 battery could definitely resolve this problem. I'm bored until newer Thinkpads are introduced at CES 2018 anyway - so why not give it a try, if there is any chance it may work.

    Since it's Lenovo; a battery firmware whitelist might be present in the bios. Other than that it's only the pin-out of the cable that could be different. Pretty slim chance either way.

    To make certain we could search the extracted bios for something that would be certain to exist in the battery firmware. These things are pretty compact though, so not much to go by. One thing would be the battery charge voltage; 16,800 mV ('41 A0' in hex), since it's a 4-cell battery (4x 4.2V). That would yield a lot of results, unfortunately. Better might be to see whether the battery pack has a name or part number (HWiNFO would show that) and look for that instead.

    @t456 thank you. Battery pinout is the same. In HWInfo, battery pack has a device name which matches its FRU. Hopefully I'll be able to extract the BIOS.

    Searched the Yoga 260 (v1.63) and 360 (v1.21); no match for either 'AV433' or 'HW027'. A battery swap wouldn't run into any issues at this point, at least.

    Checked edid whitelisting as well (to make sure the extract was ok) and this was indeed still present in a bios module of both models.
