I'm new to the Thinkpad line, coming from Mac. I would like to have the backlight default changed to "on" when I turn the computer on. Is that possible? I've scoured the settings and the internet and cannot find any information.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that this intrepid group of Lenovo/Thinkpad enthusiasts can help out a new convert.

Your probably better off asking this on the dedicated Thinkpad Yoga thread mate.

Try holding FN and then hit space bar on left side

I understand that's how to turn it on. My difficulty is that I want it to be "on" when I start my laptop, bring it back from sleep mode, etc. I don't want it to turn off. It's mildly annoying (not a deal breaker by any means) to have to toggle it "on" after every sleep session.

I would settle for it simply STAYING ON when I put it on, not turning itself off if the screen happens to take a nap after however long of inactivity. I use it all night at home, and have it on a stand next to my couch so I can just reach over with one had to do things sometimes. And every time the screen sleeps it kills the keyboard light. I can just hit shift or something to wake the screen, but the stupid keyboard is unlit again. Since it's easiest to type with one hand in the dark when the keyboard is lit, I would just wish it would STAY LIT till I power cycle, reboot, or turn it off myself again...

How could there be no answer? This is like having no backlit keyboard in many situations. (Just for entering my Windows password at boot-up is why this is really a big problem) Then there is the location of the fn and ctrl which should be swapped (I know it can be done in bios) But this makes me have to find and press function + space bar on a dark keyboard before entering my password every single time the laptop is started up or woken from sleep. (and like previous poster said, I sometimes use one hand in different situations where it is not as easy to maneuver.

Please, if anybody knows how to have the backlit keyboard start-up with the laptop, please LMK.

I just bought a Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro and was annoyed to find that the keyboard backlight is not automatically turned on when the screen comes on. I have a Logitech K810 Bluetooth keyboard and the backlight is activated by motion sensors, so I am pampered when it comes to the backlight. Oh well...
