Lenovo's purchase of IBM's personal computing division also included rights to use IBM's name for their products through the next five years. Renaming the "Access IBM" button to "Thinkvantage" is a minor cosmetic change, but the IBM badge on the corner of the lid is something that carries as much prestige for the laptop as the blue propeller of BMW or the calipers of Acura. You can see this appreciation for prestige through historical precedent in the automotive industry, too--Toyota's upcoming retro-styled FJ Cruiser doesn't have a modern Toyota emblem on the grille. Instead, it sports the vintage "TOYOTA" in bold block letters.

That's good. A Thinkpad is not a Thinkpad if it's not an "IBM Thinkpad"! I just hope that Lenovo will keep up with the good reputation of the brand and then maybe in five years, IBM will allow them to carry on with the IBM logo on the Thinkpad line.

They're already moving away from IBM in all of their materials and advertisements, I'd bet they give up the IBM on the machines well before the 5 years is up.

Is it just me or is there no "Let me build it" option?

[into the fray] It is in Lenovo's best interest to preserve the quality of the IBM line. I'm positive they will do the best they can do. Whether their best is enough is what remains to be seen.

Woohoo.. visit the site already today, after read the site u gave. Somehow i noticed, there is no ATI version of Z50 yet. I just got my X40 recently, 6.9.05. I have to say, i m very very happy to have it. Its smallness, lightness, and the rigid, its really cool and sexy. In my class i have been surrounded with Acer new generation of laptop, and i m proud to be the only person using IBM product. hehe.... Anyways, this is my dream laptop.. I should have agree with you, I ever think of it, if Lenovo puts its log there.. or maybe just plain Thinkpad, i think there something is not right or not matching. Thinkpad should be match with IBM, right? Maybe, or might be, or will be, someday, if my X40 reach to its old age and its time to look for another replacement, I would really like to stay with IBM thinkpad again. I really hope if Lenovo could retains the IBM thinkpad legendary quality, logo and same looks, black and rigid, then i dont mind of getting another laptop from its product again.
Next year, my sis sure getting a new laptop for her Uni, maybe i should recommends her another IBM product. hehe... I am very much interested to look fwd to Lenovo progress...
