Do you guys think the T61 could actually run SC2 with the 140M? I'm stuck between the T61 and the T61p. I'm pretty sure the T61p could run it, but I dislike the high screen resolution. I have bad eyesight and I don't like the screen being so dim (the T61 WXGA is 200 nits right?) and the text so small. Also has anyone ran 3Dmark06 benchmarks with the new 140M driver? I remember reading somewhere around here that once they installed the driver they got ~3500 on 3Dmark05. I'm sorry if this has been asked numerous times on here, but I haven't seen any posts about the T61 and SC2 in relation to this new driver.

How are we supposed to know when the game isn't even expected to be out until next year, if not longer given Blizzard's past? Your question is unanswerable- that's why you haven't seen any posts about it.

By the way, the higher resolution TP screens actually have BETTER brightness.

I'd feel pretty confident about SC2 running on a T61 w/ 140M. Knowing Blizzard and their determination for mass compatibility, you'll probably be able to play at max settings with zero lag and reasonable frame rate.

That will definitely be my next PC game. My last two PC game purchases over the past 8 years were both from Blizzard, WoW and WC3. I quit WoW in 2005 and I’m currently ranked #1 in WC3 (account name Neo-Geo):

Gotta love Blizzard, they develop the masterpieces. All comes at the cost of ultra long development times though, which is perfectly acceptable by my standards.

Who knows. Maybe SC2 will be canceled....err..... indefinitely postponed. What is that? Carrot on a stick? LOL That's just Blizzard.

yea great games are worth waiting for.

i agree with snap. blizzard usually doesnt make games with super high demand in processing power so older desktops and notebooks should be able to run them just fine

Theres gonna be a playable SC2 demo at blizzcon which starts on the 3rd...getting more excited

If by "older" you mean ~3 years, then you better hope SC2 doesn't get delayed to 2011 because that is certainly possible.

It's mostly about balancing out display resolution with graphics power since you'll want to run the game at the LCD's native resolution. T61p has a gpu based on the 8600 while I assume the 140m is based on the 8400 (not sure if it is but it does make sense if it was).

Both should run at native res but it is hard to tell how much you'll need to turn down to make them run smoothly, since well, the game isn't out yet ;)

Anyways, I'd probably go with the T61 over the T61p unless they allow the T61p with a WSXGA+ screen in the future.

If the T61p comes out with a WSXGA+ i would be the first to make that purchase. You think they will ever have this option anytime in the near future?

I plan on waiting, but if the HP is too expensive I want to be able to get the T61 and not worry too much. Plus I like the build quality of thinkpads. I just didn't know how scalable Blizzard makes their games since I'm new to PC gaming. And I have no idea when the lower res T61p is coming out. I remember reading that it wasn't supposed to be too long after the initial release, but I guess that was wrong considering how long it's been.

While it wouldn't surprise me to see SC2 delayed, they seem to be on target for their Q4 2008 release

    Nice! Undroppable here in Lordearon:
    http://www.battle.net/war3/ladder/W3XP-player-profile.aspx?Gateway=Lordaeron&PlayerName=undroppable
Used to be ranked 1 in both 3s and 4s teams. Dont play much anymore...

I know for sure my T60 will be able to definitely be able to handle SC2 no doubt therefore there should be no question about a T61 doing the trick.

They also "seemed on target" to release WarCraft Adventures: Lord of the Clans.

In fact, they were already done. Nothing can seem more on target than that.

    3 :)

And SC2 is nowhere near comparable to spin-offs like Ghost/Adventures in regards to delays/cancellations.

You can see the future? The game isn't even out yet and you're making such bold predictions. I hope for the gaming community's sake that the game comes out on time and that you don't make a fool of yourself.
