Thinkpad base battery 19+

What do You think about THIS accessory ?

My 6-cell battery is reducing its capacity and in a short time I'll need to replace it.

Could this "optional" be valuable ?

Some days ago I've found on of these accessories at a really interesting street price of 50 euro.

 

I assume one of the reasons you bought the X220 is for its size, and that you were OK with the run time on the battery. I suggest you replace your 6 cell battery instead. The slice battery is also a 6 cell but will add quite a bit of bulk.

 

Do You suggest a replacement with a new 6cell or a 9cell battery ?

 

That depends, do you need longer battery life than you were getting when your 6 cell was healthy? I don't have an X220 so I can't speak from experience, but consider also that Lenovo 9 cell batteries usually stick out from the back of the computer and it will be heavier than your 6 cell.

 

I went with the 9 cell on the X220 and X230... BUT I also added the slice so I never need to pack my charger for a full day out. ( 22 hrs runtime )
if the 6 cell was enough in the beginning I would just get another one. if you want more I say the 9 cell if you can handle the small protrusion

 

In every case buying does not this battery base seem to be a good idea... choosing among 6 and 9 cell remains the best option ?

 

If your existing battery dies and all you have is the slice, can you use the slice battery without a regular battery attached? If it does work, you'll always be stuck using a bulkier machine and if it doesn't you'll have to buy another regular battery anyways.

Keeping the dead battery attached may not be an option -- I have an ancient T42 that appeared to be completely dead but worked perfectly on AC when the battery was removed. Now, in most cases that I've seen a dead battery won't stop the computer from booting with an alternate power source so my T42 may be the exception rather than the rule, but would you really want to carry the dead weight?

I don't like to have an additional weight or the necessity to keep the base with me every day.
For this I need a battery (not died) too.

I'm planning to buy another battery (6cell or 9cell is even to decide).

 

I think this is a great battery to have available as an addition, but not as a replacement. I actually have all of the batteries for my X230: 6 cell, 9 cell and the slice battery. If you're going away for a weekend and don't want to bother with a charger, the 9 cell and slice will have you covered. I think it's close to 20 hours of actual use. But, it's heavy. It raises the machine up considerably, but because of the shape of the machine I don't actually mind it.

If you're between the 6 and 9 cell, I'd get the 9 cell. I doesn't add that much weight but last significantly longer.

 

50 euros?? New and genuine?? Where?!
Those are really expensive where I am, so I'd be most interested to get more details about the deal.

Purchase the slice (mainly for the great price) and when the 6cell battery will die keep a 9cell, too, could be an option ?
