    Hi all,

If you order a built in camera for a Thinkpad T510, does that mean you don't get the Thinklight? That was the case for x201T.

    Thanks!

Yes, you will have both the ThinkLight and the integrated webcam. Actually, the X-series tablets have never had the ThinkLight, regardless of whether or not a camera is added. All other Thinkpads always have the ThinkLight.

Wow! That was a quick response! Thanks - I"m pulling the trigger on my order now....after a few more minutes of internally debating an SSD upgrade.....

MidnightSun was the first to respond to my first ever post at NBR!!!
All the guys and gals at this forum are simply the best. They are just so darn helpful and don't belittle you even if you ask a typical noob question (or a question that has been asked before) instead opting to patiently explain things.

Regarding the SSD....if you can afford it by all means go for it. It makes a world of difference. Make sure you get the Intel 80GB option since that is G2 (which supports trimming) where as the 128GB does not. (This may have changed and now the 128GB might be G2 as well I am not sure)

Glad I was able to help - that's why I love this forum too, I learn new things every day ;)

The 80GB (and if available, the 160GB) SSD options that Lenovo offers are both Intel G2 drives, while the 128GB option is either a Samsung or Toshiba drive. The Intel drives have the TRIM feature, whereas the Samsung/Toshiba ones still do not, I believe. The Intel drives also outperform the Samsung/Toshiba drives in general, so I would suggest going with that option instead.

Another good option is to upgrade to an SSD aftermarket (it's a pretty simple upgrade), which may be more worth it depending on the price that Lenovo offers its SSD upgrade.

Thanks miliranga and midnightsun! Um...I'm a noob. The only reason I considered (and ordered) a SSD is because I want a machine that will still be a good/great performer in 3 years, and I was thinking SSD would be "better". I tried to change the HDD in my T60 with two different brands and even with the excellent support and advice of NBR, had no success, so I'm unlikely to try again.

This is the only SSD available on the configure-it-yourself for T510. I couldn't find the FRU number on the HMM, so I don't know how to find the manufacturer, etc. I bought the T510 yesterday to take advantage of 10% off coupon. Is this the right kind of SSD? and if not, can I call Lenovo and change the order to a HDD?

    Thanks!

An SSD from samsung or toshiba will still be fast. Just isn't as 'ideal'.
