My thinkpad bit the dust last week.. My HDD was encrypted with FDE(?). I really need my data from that drive, is there anything I can do? I really do not want to lose it. Please help!

Did the laptop die or the hard disk drive?

If you or anyone you know has another ThinkPad is where I would start. Install the drive in the other working ThinkPad and add the same password which should work.

Otherwise it may be a good time to implement your backup plan.
