My new Thinkpad dropped on the floor from 3 feet high. I'm using it now and haven't noticed anything abnormal. How can I be sure there's no internal damage (possibly delayed)? What should I check for? Thanks for any advice!

Was it dropped while the system was turned on? If not, I wouldn't really worry about it. In the ThinkLive Webcast, Matt Kohut dropped a R61 over 3 feet from the ground while the system was still on.

Sure, we can trust the webcast. It is a TP after all. If it can't handle a three foot drop then something is very wrong in the laptop world.

if you guys noticed in the webcast, he dropped it on his foot...therefore, much of the impact was absorbed into his foot

He'd rather hurt himself than the Thinkpad :D

you can tell he intentionally did that. He took a sec to position so it can fall on his feet. I'm sure he wore some kind of padded boot

Dropping it on a shoe or carpet is much different than a drop on a hardwood floor. But i'm sure its ok

Yeah if your laptop was turned off it should be okay. I would check your laptop to make sure you didn't chip any of the plastic casing but otherwise that should be the only damage you will see.

Booting is always a good test of a machine. If it boots and checkdisk is OK, chances are, you are OK.
