    Hi,

I'm planning to order my first Thinkpad (T430s probably) using Lenovo's US webshop and then ship it to Europe using some freight forwarder. The included warranty is only US so I'm also planning to purchase an international warranty.

    - Is it somehow possible to add IWS when I'm configuring the system? There is some warranty options but not one of them seems to be international.

    - It's possible to upgrade a warranty after I have already received the laptop I believe. Can the IWS be purchased same way as any other warranty upgrade?

    - Does anyone know what is the approximate price for three years onsite NBD + TPP IWS for example? I can't seem to find the prices anywhere.

You can check to see if the model is supported by IWS by entering the first 4 digits of the Model Type on this website.

And yes you can always upgrade the warranty even after the point of purchase. Depending on where you are you can even get a quotation and purchase it directly online via this website.

I have a T430, and I typed in my type# (2342) and it says my machine type is incorrect... really?!

Did you type your serial # in too? Sometimes you just need S/N and don't need the type.

I think that IWS page which Hearst was linking is not up to date yet with new models. I tried some other machine types from tabook and it looks like all new models are returning a popup window with "Machine type is not valid!" -message.

I tried some T420 model types also and they are all recognized as having IWS. I guess all T430 models will have IWS if T420-models had too...

In my experience all T, X and W series and Thinkpad Edge are eligible for IWS. I am not sure about the L series. Recently (i.e. 3 months ago), I checked with the warranty fulfillment division at Lenovo before buying an Edge 420 for my mother in law here in the US. She lives in Morocco and last month had to get the wireless card replaced. The local Lenovo service center in Rabat took care of it within 48 hours after she called them. I have also received warranty service for an X60s while traveling in India from one of their authorized service providers w/out any hassles.

More than likely the T430s will have IWS, but if for some reason it doesn't, you cannot add it later. IWS is intended for notebooks bought in one country and travels to another, not really a notebook bought here to be transplanted overseas. You might be able to upgrade the warranty down the road, but it'll probably have to bought here and shipped over again. I'd say buy as much as you can because adding it later will be a hassle. Also depending on where you are, you may not get the same level of service. For example if you get on-site and it's not offered where you're at, you won't get it.
