Yea yea, as most people on this forum know, Thinkpads are supposed to be the king in terms of keyboard. But...why? My dad had a Thinkpad and I actually didn't like the keyboard. It's too flat and no action on the strokes for me. So uh...could someone tell me why it's so much better than other companies?
Thanks.

In your case it comes down to personal preference. If you don't like the keyboard of your father's ThinkPad I wouldn't try to convince you otherwise. If you want to get other feedback it would be good to know the exact ThinkPad model your father had.

Most other keyboards are more "mushy" underneath.
IBM has long been king of keboard makers going back to its desktop and mainframe systems - for decades.
Eons ago, people used to wanna buy IBM keyboards for their mainframe terminals, but IBM would not sell keyboards separately. Other keyboards have come and gone... typically they'd suffer things like repeating keys, non-responding keys etc. after long periods of use.
IBM keyboards have a long track record of being the most reliable keyboards on the planet. If you've ever had a sticking or missing key, you'll understand the value of that.
As for the feel, that's a personal preference. I find most keyboards feel okay (except for the aforementioned mushiness) -
Well, I don't have a notebook right now, so I can't really compare the long term effects
And I don't know what model my dad had. It was available to him through work, but he had to return it. Never bothered checking what model it was.
Thanks for the replies though.
If only T60's came with something better than a X1300 >_> -

Also the T60p, which comes with an x1600 equivalent FireGL.

Thinkpad keyboards are quite responsive IMO. Compared to other keyboards, they dont really need a hard press. e.g. Some older model Dell keyboards required a good press to register. It is definitely a personal preference as Fred from NYC pointed out.
