I have a t400 and the matte outer casing gets scratched up way too easily. Does anyone have any experience in battling this? There is an invisible shield for the T400 and I was wondering if anyone has used it before.

InvisibleShield is a great product I use on other devices. I remember looking one up for my X61 but it was not full body protection, only for the screen.
I'm sure it's the same case with the T400 protector you found, I doubt you could find any type of non permanent film protection that would stick to the rubberized finish (at least one that would leave no residue when taken off).

They should make snap on plastic protectors like they have for the Macbooks.

On a different note, my X61 is about 2 years old and is in pristine condition. have not had any aesthetic problems with anything but smudges on the rubberrized finish (smudges that can be easily wiped off).

I'm not sure but I don't think a brand new original cover would cost much.

How is your machine getting scratched? I have bumps and nicks on the corners. I just recently scratched my rubber paint on the lid but there was a little sharp pebble or whatever on a table and I had it upside down and dragged it. It cut into the paint, but not so deep that it went through the paint entirely. Pretty muted though, can only tell if you look in a certain light/angle.

What conditions is your machine in?

I assume it's getting scratched up mainly when you're moving it from one place to another? If that is the case, I suggest getting a nice, soft sleeve.
