    So I reinstalled windows, got the drivers, and now when I increase/decrease the brightness, instead of going to from 0-15 sequentially it goes from 0 to 5(sometimes 1 to 5, not even 0) then 7-9 then it does the rest normally. Sometimes however I'll be able to access level 6. Any idea why this happens? Nvidia driver maybe?

    edit: Dammit I meant when adjusting brightness level

    Same with x201i.

    Original factory install: no skipping all levels available from button

    Custom clean install: not all levels availabl when using keyboard to change brightness (skips levels). However, when starting power manager you can still set all levels on the sliders.

    any solution would be welcome :)

    When you download and install the Lenovo driver, there is a registry file that gets run and I thought it was to set this.

    File is here:

    C:\DRIVERS\WIN\DISPLAY\LCDBright.reg

    Contains:

    Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\monitor\Parameters]
    "MinimumStepPercentage"=dword:00000001

    This could be for the Intel HD driver though... you sound like you have Nvidia, so it may be a different solution for that.

    Oh yeah, I forgot to mention this, I have the nvidia gpu.

    This really pisses me off though, I just did a clean install. No way am I doing a factory restore for this.

    Do you guys know what could cause this though? Doesn't make sense that this would have happen out of the blue like that after a clean install.

    I can also confirm this (on an x201i). I added the key to the registry with regedit, rebooted, and then the display brightness can be adjusted in increments of 1.

    Does this work with the intel graphics only?

    I think so. since it came from the Intel Driver folder.

    mmmh I'm using the nvidia gpu...

    I searched for the registry in this path:

    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\monitor\Parameters]
    "MinimumStepPercentage"=dword:00000001

    and the only file in parameters is called default and has no value in it.

    Same with intel GPU, the MinimumStepPercentage is not there, It was just added when I use the reg file.

    you may try it, just need to reboot the machine. (but there is no guarantee that this will work) and make sure that you back up the registry first.

    I am also wondering,

    but my guess is that the registry mods was changed or is included in the factory install,
    and you have to manually modify the registry when doing a clean install.

    I find this strange since I didn't have this problem when I did my first clean install.

    Thank you. This is a fix even for those running a dedicated graphics (Nvidia).

    For those who are not clear:

    1. Go to Start, type regedit and press enter
    2. Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\monitor\Parameters
    3. In the right pane, right click in an empty area, go to New->DWORD and type MinimumStepPercentage for the name.
    4. One the key is created, right click on it ->Modify--> enter 00000001 for Value. Press OK.
    5. After you restart, the brightness increments will be in ones.
