Hello all, I usually hang out in the Panasonic forum, but my second computer, an IBM Thinkpad t42, has been my favorite for mobile usage.
A month ago, when I turned it on, I heard the fan start, the little green lights came on including the one for the hdd, then it froze up! Through trial and error I have found that if I press down a bit below the keyboard, either over the hdd or opposite of it it will start up just fine, start windows etc. But when I stop pressing down, it will freeze, no touch pad keys anything. Also the display will start to sort of blank out or "shimmer" pressing down again will fix the display, but only turning it off, re-booting while pressing down will make it work normally. Never been dropped, was working fine the time I used it before all this. Bad motherboard? loose solder connections? Has anyone ever seen this problem before?
    Can't figure it out!

    Thanks all,

    -DDaymen

My thinkpad t42 won't boot up all the way unless I am pressing down below keyboard. Then when in windows if I let up it freezes. Motherboard problem? Has anybody seen this before?

It's probably a loose Southbridge chip due to the poor soldering method used on the T4x machines. This is a well known issue on the T4x machines.
