I know most are not very impressed with the TN panel used on the t410 however I want to purchase the t410 but want to know more what other users impressions of the screen are before buying. Again I know not to expect a beautiful screen from this model but want to know more on how it compares to other PC's in this range such as the Dell Latitude e6410.

I had the opportunity to see one of these (e6410) outside on a sunny day and was impressed with how well I could see the display. Does the screen on the t410 at least match up?

one thing the t410 screen does have going for it is a high level of maximum brightness, so you'd be happy with outdoor sunny performance

that said, viewing angles, black levels, and overall contrast ratio are garbage on this screen

however, once you get used to it, its not too bad - it will only really bug you if you are going back and forth between the t410 and something with a better screen

The e6410 has higher screen brightness and similar contrast ratios, so the e6410 would be better outdoors but they will both be washed out.

Let's hope lenovo steps up the LCD quality next time.

next time Lenovo will probably move the LCD to the 16:9 format.

I hope not. I really enjoy the extra space that the 16:10 has.

I use a Dell 20" IPS panel (2007WFP model) as my desktop monitor and I got used to the crappy TN of the T410 pretty easily.

IMO, its fine when youre looking at it from straight ahead. The colors arent all that great, but theyre not horribly inaccurate either.

I also kind of enjoy the fact that the viewing angle is pretty bad. I feel like it gives me a little more privacy when I use the laptop on the train or any other public space.

    google "notebookcheck and t410"

notebookcheck.net (a German site) did a very thorough review and have a lot of useful info re: contrast ratio, nits, etc.

    (much better than a typical notebookreview.com post...hope i don't get banned, lol).

The only business 16:9 14" I know has two resolution options: 1366x768 and 1600x900. In this case, 16:9 would give you less vertical resolution (but more horizontal) in the standard config, but would actually give you more resolution ("space") in the high-res configuration.

I'm not a fan of 16:9, but as long as they keep the vertical resolution high enough, I don't care.
