Also the t410s (in plural) look thicker than t400 series; LCD roll cage is cancelled. 6-cell battery will not protrude. and external slice battery is a really nice feature.

Are we still waiting for confirmation about the whole LCD roll cage issue? I am confused on whether we have official word on that yet...

I think it's pretty much clear now. T410 series and W510s will not feature LCD roll cage. T410s will have ABS plastic to protect its screens while W510s will use Hybrid CFRP (GFRP+CFRP), the same stuff alreadly used by x300 and t400s.

Did you mean T410 and T510 for the first part?

I thought all the new top roll cages would have the hybrid mixture that we saw...

A rep from lenovo at CES thought they were...but I guess when we see someone take apart a machine or view a cut away we will really know for sure.

I don't know, I'm kinda wary of the bulky look of the T410 - the T400 seemed more aesthetically pleasing, at least when closed. Well, the price you pay for more ports...

I'd love to play around with one, or at least read a nice detailed review with plenty of pictures :)

    Thanks for the link!

I believe the T510 and W510 frames/cases are identical. It wouldn't make sense for them to be made different.

True so if it was the whole T series including the T510, then it would have to include the W510...

The T410 still has a screen Mg rollcage, as it still uses the 16:10 LCD format, the only thing that changed in the top case is that the top outer cover no longer uses Super Elastic Polycarbonate plastic and instead be replaced by ABS plastic.

    Hello,

Thanks for the pics i have a T500 + X301 my friend has a T400s sorry to tell you this but from my experience the T400s feels much cheaper than T500 + X301 the plastic is soo thin and fragile and lite however the Keyboard is excellent and better...

    T510 + T410s +W510 = Bottom magnesium rollcage + Top 2nd generation glass rollcage like X300-X301+T400s

T410 = Bottom magnesium rollcage only! no top rollcage just hard plastic like SL series...

Are you sure the T410 still has rollcage for LCD?

    T400:
Top: Super-Elastic PolyCarbonate (SEPC); Bottom: Carbon-Fiber Reinforced Plastic

    T410:
Top: Acrylonitrile-Butadiene-Styrene (ABS) plastic; Bottom: Carbon-Fiber Reinforced Plastic

    T400s:
Display cover: Carbon-fiber reinforced plastic (top),
glass-fi ber reinforced plastic (side walls); Base: Magnesium alloy

    T510:
Display cover: Glass-fiber reinforced plastic; Base: Carbon-fi ber reinforced plastic

    W500:
Top: Super-Elastic PolyCarbonate (SEPC); Bottom: Carbon-Fiber Reinforced Plastic

    W510:
Display cover: Glass-fiber reinforced plastic; Base: Carbon-fi ber reinforced plastic

    SL410/510, etc
    Scratch-resistant ABS plastic

Above was taken directly from tabook, provided by Lenovo. Looks like they've cheapened up the new T410. Pity.

There seems to be a lot of confusion about the t410 roll cage, why doesnt someone just call lenovo.

I see half of the people saying it's all plastic and the other half saying it's the old magnesium.

idk...but I've yet to ever here lead_org give incorrect advice. I mean just look at all the Thinkpads he's got. He must be really into this stuff :)

Though i do recall reading the only diff is the plastic material in the T410, too.

You guys do realize that if you call Lenovo, they almost certainly will not give you a definitive answer? The new Thinkpads are almost too new for their Level1 phone people to know answers for sure.

i am about to order t410 or t510. so it's better to go for a t510 if i want better build quality? i was leaning towards the the t410, because of its weight, although the t510 has more graphics ram. (512 instead of 256).

Did the new models get thicker across the board? Blah, they haven't generationally really gotten thicker since the T20 -> T30... That would be disappointing. Thinkpads have never were the most stylish systems, but atl east they were thin...
