I cant seem to find the 4:3 option on the t61. Yesterday It worked fine, but today it seems to have disappeared.

Anyone else have the same issue?

Hopefully the T61 4:3 will be back soon. It would be ashame if it was gone forever.

Does anyone know if the reason they pulled it off the site is because people were experiencing problems? My hope is that they just took it off to catch up with orders (though from a business perspective this would seem unlikely).

I've read people talking about how the supply dried up, but that would surprise me considering Lenovo already sold a bunch of 14.1 4:3 (I assume) and they will need to support most of them for the next 3 years.

What are others thoughts on this?

It comes down to a cost and supply chain issue. 4:3s take more glass to make than a widescreen of the same size, and are produced in lower numbers, so they end up costing a lot more. Also people view widescreen as "better" and Lenovo has said it hurts their image in the public eye to not offer a vast majority of widescreen displays.

I like the fact that Lenovo is altering available product on the website daily based on upcoming inventory. Also remember that you can pickup the phone and call Lenovo to order products not on the website.

Another issue here to is that according to users in the know over on www.thinkpads.com, Lenovo has an outstanding corporate order for 100K 4:3 display T61s from IBM, all with the exact same hardware config.

What do you mean by that? Can you order the 14.1 4:3 even when it's not listed on the webpage?

I understand the large stock IBM still has in the thinkpad line, but why the large order? I didn't get that. Is the reason for that that they are handing them out their employees?

You can order configs over the phone that you can not get online, give it a shot.

IBM has a huge amount of employees worldwide (350K according to wikipedia), so I suppose an order of 100K is not too unreasonable if they wanted to do a massive refit.

Well, the 14.1 4:3 is back on the site. I'm sure others are correct that the reason they were taken off was because of stock and supply issues, but from a sales point it got me to order one as soon as they showed back up on the site. I'd been watching the site thinking "I'll wait until there is another coupon", but now knowing they might pull them from the site as soon as I saw them I placed an order.

I decided to go with the 7200 rpm drive, so hopefully I won't notice the heat issues I've been reading...
