    My Thinkpad t61p with Quadro Fx 570M 256MB is running 66 degress C. idle. That seems really high. Can someone explain how to use the TPFanControl?

    mine is idling around 85C and will shoot up to 90C. I have the 'everything' warranty till 02-2011, so i hope it burns up and they have to give me a new t500

    Why do you say is idling at that temp, after how many minutes does the laptop heat up to that temperature?

    To use TPFan Control really well, the best thing to do is to leave it in Smart mode after editing the TPFan Control settings (though the .ini file in its install folder). Here's a copy of mine if you're interested, it has the following settings:

    Temp=30C Fan speed: 2
    Temp=35C Fan speed: 3
    Temp=40C Fan speed: 3
    Temp=45C Fan speed: 5
    Temp=50C Fan speed: 7
    Temp=60C Fan speed: 64

    If you want to be in control of the fan speed yourself, you can launch the program and then select the "Mode" down at the bottom and switch it to Manual. In the Manual mode, you have options of increasing speeds from 0 to 7 which are the normal fan speeds. If you want to increase the fan speed further to cool your system more, you can enter a fan speed of 64, which will allow the fan to run uninhibited and operate it's full functional speed, usually around 5,000 RPM.

    There's definitely something wrong, no Thinkpad should be getting that hot, especially at idle. You should call support, if you haven't already. Otherwise, give us a more detailed explanation of what's going on- as in CPU speed + load, GPU load, RAM usage, Fan Speed and what if anything you are using to control it.
