I've heard the touch has lower battery life and the touch screen makes the display look a bit grainy. I'm a huge fan of windows 8 though but I don't know if it's worth it to get the touch version?

Also I heard the x1s get hot. Is that a problem after hours of use?

Call one of the Microsoft stores in your area and see if they have the Carbon Touch in stock? If so, you could see the screen in person.

Personally, I think Windows 8 seems a lot less silly with Touch so I'd get it if it were me ;-)

If me, I certainly will not get the touch version for the reason you stated. The touch screen is more adequate for small factor notebook like helix or X240.
