I went to my school library to borrow a laptop today, and the laptop they gave me was a Lenovo R61 without a rubberized lid. Instead, it was all plastic. Harder and thicker plastic than the palmrest. I thought this was extremely strange since my own Lenovo T61 15.4" and my cousin's R61 14" has a rubberized lid.

Also, the ribbon cable to the LCD is covered instead of exposed like the previous 2 models.

Aren't all thinkpads supposed to have the rubberized lids? Which models are the exception? Does your laptop have the exposed video ribbon cable?

the R61 15.4'' doesn't have the roll-cage on the top.

I am currently working on a brand new T61 (Machine Type 6466-9MG) It has a rubber coated lid and the slightly exposed ribbon cable. You could check the 'Machine Type' number and see if its any different. All the T61's I have work on in the last year or so have the rubber coated lid.

Opps.. signatures a bit big eh? LOL! Gonna have to make that smaller me thinks!

The R series, at least the 61's, have a plastic lid without the rubberized coating. Also as Han mentioned, the 15.4" R61 doesn't have the roll cage but he 14" version does.
