The other day got a X61 with 8cell new battery for £110 (T7300, 2GB). And I just love the thing! Found myself seeing too many overlap between the my iPad 2 and Macbook Air - so decided the Air is going on eBay; don't get me wrong, the MBA 13 is a superbly designed laptop - but I'm scared to use it, just in case I drop it or lost it! Battery is okay but at about 4 hours isn't brilliant.
Though the Thinkpad just makes sense - it was over £1500 when new, when the offer came up I just couldn't say no. Even after a few years, its still great. The design is rugid and built like a tank in the Thinkpad fashion - certainly not scared of a few drops - really enjoying the swappable battery. Regardless of the new CPU, etc spec - a good old Core 2 is good enough for emails, etc.

Glad to hear you like the X61. I had an X60s and loved it too. Apart from it having a dim screen, it was a great little notebook.
I just ordered myself a new in box X200s, so I'm looking forward to that coming in. Will replace my X60s for work.
I also have a T410 which is just great as a main notebook/desktop replacement.
Enjoy it! -
Saw X60 the other day in person and must say, thats one small and lightweight notebook and a looker too
!
So congrats on obtaining sleek machine! -
Hehe Macbook Air now sold.

EDIT: Something you might want to check out but only apply it at your own risk - T61/X61 SATA II 1.5 Gb/s cap - willing to pay for a solution - Page 8 -
The X61 is a sweet machine, although it can get hot if you have a troublesome wifi adapter.
I'd try undervolting it with RMClock for lower heat and longer battery life. -
I couldn't agree more with Quicklite, my T61 is still better than many new laptops, esp. with an Intel 320 SSD + Middleton's amazing BIOS. Boots up in a minute and I still get 3 hrs/charge with a cheapo replacement battery and the power manager software. Only downside is the weight, the beefy designs of 3+ years ago can't compete with today's new rigs.

Star Forge Quaggan's Creed Redux!
Thinkpads has always been the rugged go-to laptop for people who need something dependable and rock-solid anywhere to go. My mom's T40 has been almost everywhere here and there and to this day still works like a charm. Thinkpads are still a favorite among people because of its legendary reliability.
I know the IBM-era Thinkpads were built like portable tanks and would last as long as the circuitry will hold. Chassis-wise, they are pretty much impregnable. The Lenovo ones thankfully still holds on that Thinkpad tradition.
Thinkpad, quality stuff!
