    Hello!

I was wondering if anybody has played with Windows 8 on a Thinkpad? My T430 is still on the way and I will take advantage of the cheap upgrade offer to Windows 8. I'm sure it will run well...but I am not exactly in a position to test :p.

I'm mostly curious how the trackpad handles windows 8 as I know that the OS is gesture heavy.

    Any input would be awesome!

    Thanks!

    Sure!

If you purchase a new Windows 7 PC, you can get an upgrade to Windows 8 Professional for $14.99.

    From Microsoft:

Go to https://windowsupgradeoffer.com/en-US/Home/ProgramInfo for complete details.

I'm just curious if windows 8 using the standard Thinkpad trackpad is a pleasurable experience :p

I have it on my X1. Have not used extensively but seems to run just fine.

It's not. The Consumer Preview (which followed the Developer Preview) has been going on for a while now. You can google Win8 download and download a copy now if you wish to test. The official release is slated for the fall. As a major release approaches, OEMs offer a cheap upgrade path so sales of current Win7 machines don't grind to a halt.

But I heard if you install the preview you can't go back to 7?

Yes it messes with the bootloader so there is no going back besides recovery discs or fresh 7 install.

Windows 8 is okay on my X61 tablet though it has an SSD. I defintely wish I had a multi-touch ThinkPad tablet, I might buy an X200 tablet with multi-touch.

just create a 20 to 30 GB partition and install windows 8 on that. You will have a nice dual boot machine and it won't mess up your windows 7 installation. When you get tired of it just delete the partition (though I doubt you will :D Win 8 is awesome)

    Good to hear!

Are more then two finger gestures supported on the trackpad? I'm assuming that's the case for the X and Edge series.
