I just got my new thinkpad last Monday straight from Lenovo...and today, just for the heck of it, I was checking out ThinkPads on ebay. There are people paying almost $2,000 for a computer I just got for around $1,000.

If I didnt like my precious T61p so much already, or have a good paying full time job that occupies most of my waking hours, I would be ever so tempted to buy another one or two and resell them.

Just a little hint for any entrepreneurial readers out there....(and another hint, the e-coupon expires tomorrow, haha).

I was picking on an extreme case, but seriously, anyone who needs to make a few hundred bucks really quick, give it a shot! You can buy a nicely equipped machine for between $900 and $1,300 and turn around and sell it for $200 - $300 profit EASILY right now. Just dont guarantee your buyer delivery by Christmas, LOL.

Were you able to stack a coupon with EPP/CPP? If so, what code are you referring to? I was able to get the price down some on my R61--just under $900 for a moderately spec'd config (not a t61p though)--but with cpp, I didn't find a stackable coupon. It seems lenovo has tightened some loopholes for stacking with employer or contractor pricing, so this post might be a little misleading, especially w/o details.

Several of the T61p models on ebay have the WUGXA screen that hasn't been available from Lenovo for a while now and offer instant shipping with no sales tax in most cases.

I've shopped Dell systems in the past, and even with EPP and ecoupons the ebay systems were often cheaper. I'd love to know how the ebay vendors get such consistently great prices so far below retail.

it's crazy how they auction thinkpads on ebay with such cheap prices.. i think those sellers are lenovo employee or lenovo engineers who get their laptops for free (just a thought).. my uncle used to work to IBM and he got his T43 for free :D

Another decent place is craigslist for locals selling their laptops, etc.

I believe the models they sell on eBay are not CTOs, so this is why they're sold at such a high prices. People not living in the US are forced to pay a lot of money for an equivalent laptop, so this is one of the reasons people buy them from eBay.

Most of the T61p's on eBay are the freakin fully loaded macho machines too.
Usually a T7500/T7700, 4gigs RAM, a big 160 or 200 gig 7.2k rpm HD, DVD burner, fingerprint, and a lot have WUXGA.
IMHO a machine of that nature is most definitely worth over $2k, although I would never pay it.

I got a maxed out CTO from Ebay, only something very strange happened. It was advertised as having a WWAN card and it didn't have one. That required an additional $389.00 for Rev A card and antennas and about twelve hours of disassembly, installation and reassembly. The seller said he made a mistake and returned $100.00 of that.
