    Hello,

I am looking to buy another notebook. I have an x40 now and it has served me well but I think I want a 15.4 inch screen. I have been looking at the T61, but I'm not sure what has become of Thinkpads since Lenovo. Still the same quality? or is it time to look at other manufactures?

    Thanks.

Honestly some HPs and Sony have caught my eye.....

I certainly wouldn't consider an HP. I know many people who've had problems with HP build quality and reliability. Sony is better than HP, but they're overpriced for what you're getting. I've recently purchased an X61s, and I can assure you that Lenovo quality is still top-notch, if not better than ever. I'm very impressed with this machine and completely happy with my decision to go go with Lenovo. The customer support can suck at times, but the computers themselves are of such a high caliber that you'll rarely need support anyway.

The T60, R60, X60 are probably the last if the IBM ThinkPads. The newer T61 and X61 I've seen have been very solid. Every generation has their issues. The T4x had GPU issues, the T30 had memory slot problems, etc.

Newer thinkpads are a little sloppily put together, but its good design all around and good parts. You will find case issues like misaligned plastics, uneven space bar and creaky areas (when pressure applied)

I just haven't had a good experience with dells and hp, even with perfectly assembled cases, they cant withstand stress like thinkpads.

Also keep in mind that ibm/Lenovo warranty kicks ass. It follows the machine, they overnight all service parts (in US) and have some of the fastest turnaround times I’ve ever seen.
