I just installed Ubuntu 9.10 and am liking it thus far. Keep in mind that I am fairly new to Linux and is still learning the basics. So far, I figured out some shortcuts and installed some basic software. However, the trackpoint barely works out of the box and Fingerprint Reader, APS oh well don't work anymore. I did try my best using the following webpage:

Could someone be kind enough to guide me through here? Thanks in advance.

It would be easier for us to help you if you tell us:
    • The goals you are trying to achieve,
    • The exact commands you tried to use to achieve your goal, and
    • The outputs from those commands (if any).

    Sorry for the confusion.

I am trying to customize the trackpoint to increase its sensitivity and make use of the Active Protection System & Fingerprint Reader.

Since I had no previous experience with Linux before, I just did copy and paste the commands from the webpage from my original post. Clearly, I had no clue where to input the commands from the webpage which is why I asked for help here.

I just my Linux box up and running. I was pleasantly surprised how much better my stuff worked out of the box. As one example I have this USB WiFi card, which was a bear to get working in Ibex, but worked out of the box in Koala.

In my own personal experience with Linux and I'm by no means an expert or even close, is the more one deviates from the norm for lack of a better word, the more work you have to do to get things to work, but Linux is so open that if you work at enough you usually can get most things working.

Thank you. That was so easy and took less than a minute. My printer won't scan though which sucks. Everything else worked out of box.

I have read that there is an app called "Think Finger" which is supposed to help the Finger print reader to work. I have never looked into it but heard about it. Google for it.
