Are the thinkvantage tools really stable?
I called Lenovo and they requested me to use Windows OS tools instead of thinkvantage.![]()
Is the customer service going down the drain? or Home users neglected!
I called them for another issue related to hardware. They have no clue about the hardware they supplied in the system.![]()

Customer service seems to be largely hit or miss. Some people report pretty good experiences, while others report horrible experiences. According to most surveys, though, Lenovo support is neither exceptional nor horrible.
Some of the ThinkVantage tools are buggy, but I find a few to be quite nice and stable, if a bit bloaty.
And I don't blame CS for resorting to Windows OS tools, though, since those should have the least amount of variation between computers. -
I agree. The customer support is always mixed.
They told me Thinkvantage tools were not tested. It surprised me. The reason I was dissapointed is the customer service did not listen to the issue I was clarifying(Why Rescue & Recovery not displaying all the drives in my system for creating backup? and what is "2nd hard drive" listed in the options for creating backup in the R&R tool?). They simply blamed on my external backup harddrive and requested me to reinstall(easy and instant fix??) the R&R.
I did what they told me. Uninstalled the R&R. I'm going to use Windows backup for a while and move on to Acronis True image. Glad they told me their tools are not tested. I was taking backup of my data with R&R in my old thinkpad without knowing that.
Is thinkvantage considered free? or we pay for thinkvantage tools when we pay for hardware.
I hope one day their Thinkvantage software become stable like their Thinkpad/Thinkstation hardware. -
You should probably pick and chose the ones you want. I myself prefer a clean install. I only use hard drive protection, power manager and ultranav.

I've been using Lenovo ThinkVantage tools on my T60 and T61 and I'm very happy with them. I don't use them all but I do use HDD Protection, Power Manager, Access Connections and UltraNav. I don't think Access Connections is really needed if you're on a normal home network. But I do suggest doing a clean install install and then install the TV tools you want as ZaZ also suggested.

Thanks guys. I'm doing a clean install. Bought an Acronis true image.

Well I like and use some of the TV software. I think Lenovo should spend some money to make them better. I think that, we users deserve this
Anyway, this is crazy that some people have to do clean install as soon as they got laptop because its so bloated ...
