Ok, since I just got my cpu and already had to restore the system, I have some questions.

I read a ton before buying my thinkpad and there was a huge number of people who were clean installing xp (with and without problems afterward), people arguing to disable certain xp services that were resource hogs, people uninstalling bloatware, etc.

So, today my new T60 arrived. I was going to run thinkvantage update, windows update (with automatic updates off) and turn off unnecessary services running in XP (many of which appear to be security threats). I got through the first two parts ok (although there were some hurdles) before running into a brick wall after disabling some xp services (got from digg.com).

Now, as I sit here watching the T60 restore I find myself wondering if I am going to just have to eat the 500MB of crap running in the background.

If someone wants to suggest safe ways to remove that crap/uninstall/stop services please feel free. I trusted digg and stopping the services the article suggested has removed has 3+ hours from my day.

    Rant over
