I am wondering if anyone of you have any first hand experience with lenovo thinkpad x1 and x1 carbon. I'm on the fence right now. I know that x1 carbon ram is solder to the mother board whereas the x1 is upgradable. X1 has regular HDMI port and X1C does not. So give me some feedback please. Thanks.

Forget all of them, better get T440s.

i got both of these machine. The ThinkPad X1 runs hot, due to the full voltage sandy bridge CPU, whereas the X1C doesn't run as hot due to the ivy bridge ulv cpu.

The X1 is good in that you can upgrade the ram, hdd, mSATA, etc, the X1C has pretty much soldered everything. But as said the T440s is better option.

I want a laptop around 3-4lbs. The T440s is definitely in the ball park. So how is the T440s stack up against X230?

    X230:
    -12.5 inch screen
    -1366x768 display resolution
    -max RAM: 16 GB
    -no discrete graphic
    -better processor power (non ULV)

    T440s:
    -14 inch screen
    -1600x900 or 1920x1080 display resolution
-max RAM: 12 GB (4 GB is soldered)
-discrete graphic: nvidia GT 730M (I heard it won't be available in U.S.)

    Decide it by your needs.
