Can you please run crystaldiskmark and post your 4k speed. Mine result is quite a bit lower than what ssdreview and storagereview got when they tested this drive. Storagereview got 14/58 mb/s in CDM and ssdreview got 25/62. Mine is getting 19/34. The Paragon tool says alignment is fine.

I'm wondering if the tweaks for 4, 5, 965 need to applied here too:

Here is mine. I don't think yours looks unusual, though perhaps you want to post a shot of yours as well.

Remember also that Storagereview (if I remember corectly) used their Intel 310 on a sled adapter provided by Intel, not in a ThinkPad.

Here's mine. I'm not so sure our results are normal. The msata interface is still 3gb/s so that shouldn't be a limitation.

    Here's ssdreview's, look at that 4k write:

I've read some of the tweaks. They seem like good choices for desktop systems, but I'd be concerned they'd have an adverse effect in a laptop environment, either by decreased battery life, or increased heat from the CPU or both.

Considering that StorageReview did their tests on a drive sled and not in a real laptop, perhaps they utilized these tweaks to gain performance. I admit it would be nice to boost the 4k writes, but I don't know if I'd want the possible side effects.

I've also tried to minimize the amount of writes to my SSD by moving temp directories, page file, browser caches, etc. over to my mechanical drive, so I'm not sure how much I'd be affected.

I installed the latest chipset drivers from Intel after a clean install. They detected and set up the Intel 6-series chipset just fine.

I'm also using the latest Rapid Storage Technology drivers (10.1.0.1008).

    (frown)

EDIT: Intel just released a new version of their chipset drivers. I tried installing it, but apparently there are no real changes.

Another 310 user posted his results for his non-Thinkpad. Could this be a Lenovo chipset limitation?

Lonewolf, could you please apply those Power Option tweaks and see if it changes anything for you?

I am not familiar with the Lenovo x220, but if two of you are seeing an issue with the ssd on SB, there could be some kind of throttling issue. I have an HM55 which has a throttling issue on all ssd's, and some very smart people have spent some time to find out how to tweak it so it gets spec type numbers, so there could be an artificial throttling problem with the Lenovo. Have you checked (if there is one) the x220 thread? I will go looking for it now to see if I can find anything on it. Good luck, because this ssd is capable of much better 4k random numbers. It might be that it just needs some people much smarter than me to figure out the issues.

Thanks for posting here Abidderman, I replied in the other thread before seeing your post here. We are the first two afaik to notice this. CPU-Z shows definite throttling at idle, unless the cpu specifically is loaded. In the Max Performance profile it waffles between the lowest possible state and turbo, and does this during the benchmark too, so it's happening all the time. I tried going even more aggressive with the tweaks from the main tweaks thread, but it doesn't make a difference. The bizarre thing is that it's throttling despite Min Processor State at 100%.

Solution found, Speedstep needs to be disabled in the BIOS to prevent throttling, but this has an adverse effect on battery life:

I'm glad you figured it out...I wonder if a future BIOS update will fix this issue. What is your estimated impact on battery life with Speedstep disabled?

How did you go about doing this ?? I went into BIOS - found nothing in regards to speedstep. A step by step?

Im on a W510 with an X25m 80gb. Wondering if this would make a difference.

All that indicates is that his Series 5 chipset will benefit from nbr's ssd forum tweaks.

Actually, Speedstep is overkill, forget that. In the BIOS, go to Config->Power->Disable CPU Power Management.

Disabled CPU Power Management along with Intel Speedstep.

CrystalDisk jumped a few points for both Read and Write. Nothing extravagant but thank you for finding this. Repped!
