How would I disable/remove the default windows connection services to use (as default)Thinkvantage Access Connections in Vista...I find it a much better interface, and it catches more networks as well....

I wish I could help. My brother has a thinkpad r60 and he had me switch the wireless to use thinkvantage instead of windows wiretrash connection.
My brother moved away from home a few months ago so I can't really help.
I do remember that you turn thinkvantage wireless managment on within the thinkvantage controls.

I never noticed that. I use Windows myself just cause it's one less thing that turns on when I boot. I don't think you can remove networking from Windows. You can just install Access over it.

You can't remove it. You can use Access Connections by using the Blue Thinkpad button and Vista and Access connections will work together meaning without interfering with each other.

This has not been my experience. From the very beginning Access Connections and Vista have been competing for the network. The result is that I get repeatedly connected and disconnected. Both have the same connection profiles. This happens at home and at coffe shops with Wi-Fi.

I would gladly get rid of ThinkVantage as I'm not using any of its functionality. I found the password manager very annoying and slow. Has anybody tried to uninstall ThinkVantage? Is there a way to turn off Access Connections?

I always have luck in this kind of things, ie ThninkVantage utilities.
I have 2 T61p for office, in Canada, one came at end of Dec 2007, the 2nd at March 2008. I have both of them setup in both Windows Wireless (the 2 Monitors with a blue dot at the far right system tray ?) and also the ThinkVantage Access Connections ( 2 symbols, one with computer with cable below showing Speed and one bar chart showing strength etc.)
No problem fighting each other, each have its strength. Mostly when I got home, the wireless may Turn OFF (Radio OFF, a choice within the setup ), then I double click the Bar chart symbol, to Power On Wireless Radio.
But most of the time, it connects nicely by itself, BUT Bartoz is 100%, it will take longer time to boot, your choice.

Yes, this is also my understanding. Windoze wireless is built into the OS, or at least one of the many components that ships with the OS. When you enable the ThinkVantage Access Connections, it simply takes over the role of managing your wireless card and its connections. Use the blue ThinkVantage button and try to enable ThinkVantage Access Connections.

    Hi there,

I think what may really be wanted here is to get rid of the xtra icon in the tray... easily done by going into the properties window of the wireless network connection and deselecting the "show icon in notification area" setting.

Works for me, The access connections does it's function, and I don't have to look at (and accidentally click on) the windows one all the time...

I'm sitting here observing a popup every few minutes:
"ThinkVantage Access Connections. Status Disconnected" and
    "ThinkVantage Access Connections. Status Operational".
The same happens when I'm in an Internet Cafe. After a while, I have to reboot the computer. I did update all network drivers, etc., and it only got worse.

Hurray! I uninstalled Access Connections from the Control Panel and my problems went away. My conclusion is that Lenovo add-on software adds negative value to their computers. Let the professionals write software.
