Because sometimes USB devices don't fit vertically. I have a credit card USB drive with a slide out connector. I have to position the laptop on the corner of my desk so I can hang the device off it.

If the USB port were horizontal I would simply plug it in. USB Tuner sticks and add on Blue Tooth dongles can present a problems to name a few more troublesome devices.

i would love that every thinkpad have native displayport support on the machine, 4 usb port, card reader standard on every machine, top and bottom internal magnesium roll cage and top magnesium external casing like the T4x series.

The T4x/p series had quite a bit of flex in the lid, the T6x/p fixed this. Do you mean the T6x/p series? I have a T43 and the lid sinks quite a bit, i can stand on it, but lid touches keyboard causing marks, i stood on my T61p and this did not occur.

I agree, hopefully the t410 will have a displayport, even more so I hope that it will support digital audio out.

Although the t6x and t4/5xx endoskeleton is better than the exo of the t4x in my opinion.

i want both the magnesium endo and exoskeleton........ most likely it will never occur due to the material costs.

actually when the first T61 came out, many people from the HP and Dell design team were very interested in proving the toughness of T61 as nothing more than just a marketing stunt. Many people have actually stood on the T61 without much problem. Standing on laptops when they are closed, is not a standard test used before T61 came out, but it is interesting that many competitors i.e. HP also thought to emulate the feat with their HP elitebook revamp after the T61 came out.

People have driven over their T61 with their cars and suv, with only their LCD been damaged, while the rest of the systems are intact, which is just amazing.

I just did it because i knew it would be fine... It's great when i can stand on my T61p with my workboots on in front of people to prove it is well designed. I love doing that, people look at me like i am crazy! Also, bringing up the warranty subject, I have this "void" text on the bottom of my T61p when i got it used, would this correlate with factory warranty? Or is this just a third-party sticker the owner took off for some weird reason, thati don't have to worry about? It just says "void" in a diagonal pattern, not "warranty void if..." sticker. It still has a 3 year depot service warranty to December 2011 so i would hate to see that all go to waste.

I stood on my T61 too even though I didn't put on my 170 Lbs on it. Don't ask me why. :)

I dont think that there is a laptop you wouldnt want thinner, lighter, run longer, have better components, so to add a few different things to the list,

I would loved if they brought back:
-Soft-Touch palm rests (along with the lid)
-The red stripes over the trackpoint buttons
-Angled and tapered edges of the 14 inch T4x series
