I have ordered a T60p in April. I have received it, as scheduled in May. The machine did not work (motherboard prob.) and I RMAs it back. I got credited.
I have ordered an new one with somewhat reduced price on May 21, scheduled to be delivered on June 14. Two days ago my sales rep e-mailed me that he thinks it will be delivered on June 16th. Today I got an e-mail that the delivery date is
8/21   . Nice move, Lenovo!

Maybe I switch to VAIO FZ. Anyone has any experience with it?

The FZ isn't really in the same class as a ThinkPad. It's more of a consumer notebook, really.

Shouldn't you be getting a T61 at this point though?

If it's a T60p you ordered, then disregard that August ship date. The same thing happened to me. When I ordered, I also got an August ship date. But the computer was shipped 2 weeks later.

Could you elaborate? The FZ160 E/B has the same processor, same memory but Santa Rosa platform. The TP60(p) looks more robust and I definitely like the Thinkpad keyboard.
Plus the FZ has SD card reader and the DVD player can be
used with the whole laptop running. (these last two indeed indicate a consumer notebook)

So what's the deal with the T61P ? is that shipping now?

I mainly just mean in terms of quality of construction, durability, etc. Don't get me wrong, the FZ appears to be well-made, but it doesn't have some of the internal designs that a T60/T61 does (internal rollcage, that kind of thing).

And yeah, frankly, the FZ keyboard is an acquired taste. I think that it can eventually be gotten used to (I got used to the similar keyboard on my SZ460), but I think it is decidedly inferior to the ThinkPad keyboard in terms of feel, travel, etc.

The T61 is now available, although I guess a lot of people have been waiting for their orders. Not sure about he T61p though.

At this point though, if I was in your position and hadn't gotten my ThinkPad yet, I'd want a T61 or T61p.

Well, I ordered my T60p on April 30. It still has not shipped. 46 days and counting...

The T60P actually outperforms the T61 according to CNET: http://reviews.cnet.com/laptops/lenovo-thinkpad-t61/4505-3121_7-32442903.html?tag=prod.txt.1

Just take a look at the bar graphs at the bottom of the page. Santa Rosa isn't all it's cracked up to be (YET), and we won't see any significant changes in computer speed until memory becomes available in the 800 Mhz speed. Right now, the T61 users are still running at 667 Mhz (So they aren't really better than a T60 yet anyways.)

This is another great example of how goofy CNET reviews are. The T61 they tested had a 2.0 GHz T7300. The T60 they compared it to had a 2.33GHz T7600.

I mean, "duh", of course the older one is going to perform better. It doesn't mean the T60p "outperforms" a comparable T61 though.

Honestly, really, CNET seems to go out of their way to make ridiculous comparisons in their reviews. This reminds me of their D630 review where they marvelled at how much better the battery life was and did another of their great bar charts showing the difference..... except they compared the D630 with long-life battery to other laptops with their standard batteries.

I have just received an e-mail from my sales agent (after I e-mailed him that I am considering canceling), he says
there is a bug that causes telling the wrong date to many customers. He says my shipping date is unchanged.
    Will see, will see...
