I have my X220 for more than a year without this problem, until these last few days, it happened 2 or 3 times so far. I had the touchpad disabled long ago, as I don't use it. But a couple days ago I saw the cursor moving randomly, eventually found out it's my hand accidentally moving on the touchpad. However, when I went to control panel ==> mouse, I saw the touchpad was still disabled. But just to be sure, I checked the box, then unchecked it (to disable), then clicked "Apply" and "Ok". Then all was well again. But a few days later, it happened again, and I did the same thing, and it was disabled again.

Does anyone have idea how this happened and how to avoid? My use of the laptop is simple, no complicated software.

    Thanks in advance!

Can't you just disable it in BIOS?

A few days ago my trackpoint settings reset (I have touchpad disabled in BIOS). Windows update caused error?

Anyways, like ajkula said, if you don't use it, just BIOS disable it.

Hi, thanks, but I don't know how to disable in BIOS. I'm very much a layman :p. How to get to BIOS? Also, I didn't have this problem for more than a year, how come it appears now? I don't think it's windows update.

Press F1 on initial boot to enter BIOS.

    Go into Configuration>keyboard & mouse>disable touchpad>press F10 to save and exit.

Thanks. If this happens too many times, I'll disable it in BIOS. Still would like to know the cause, though.
(When I first saw the random cursor movement, I thought someone was accessing my computer remotely.)

I still have the problem. I didn't go to BIOS. This happens daily, usually not in the beginning after turning on the computer, but in the middle of using the computer, it resurfaces. Each time I go to Control Panel => Mouse, and just click on "OK" to re-confirm the settings. Really hope someone knows what caused it. Could unchecking some start-up programs in msconfig have caused it?

If you want you can pull the cable for the touch pad that connects to the motherboard. It's under the keyboard.
