My Touchpoint has been acting strange. When I use it to go one direction and stop and take my finger off, sometimes it goes back the opposite direction a little bit. It has been happening more and more often. Usually it is the opposite direction but sometimes it goes in a random direction and it usually happens when I'm moving the touchpoint slowly.

I love the touchpoint but this is making it a whole lot more difficult to use.

I've got it on second highest sensitivity, if that makes a difference.

Anyone have any ideas what/why it is happening?

Sometimes it does this, but if you let go, it willl adjust it to stop.

the TrackPoint will periodically auto-calibrate.   like reikar said, let it go and it will eventually stop.   ThinkPads have done this since 1992.   it's nothing to worry about. ;)

Yes, my T61 does this as well, and my new X301 does it as well (but not as often as my T61 does).
I'd be using the track-point, and the next thing you know, I'd let go of it, and its still going in another direction for about a second or so. True while annoying, it's normal.
It's just recalibrating, no worries :)

Haven't experienced this yet, but it's good to know for when I do. This is my first ThinKPad (and first computer with a track point), so this would have made me worry too!

Ugh it is doing it so often now. It is quite annoying. Is there a way to make it stop calibrating itself all the time?

Yes. Don't rest your finger on it when you're not actually moving the pointer.

Yes, it's perfectly normal, just try using a light touch as Jane suggested.

Make sure there is no mechanical pressure from the keys surrounding it (i.e. scrape off the gunk lol).

My T510 is a week old so I don't think gunk is a problem. ;)

Thanks for the advice guys, I'll just stop playing around with it when I don't actually need it. :D

It happens occasionally for me, and pushing the TrackPoint in the direction it is moving slowly usually stops the drift for me.

I had this problem and it went away when I turned off the touchpad.

It's funny when this happens during some intense shooting games (provided you're nutz enough to play those with T.Point, hehe) ;)
