Is there a way to make the track point center button = the center mouse button (mouse wheel click)? The only options listed are zoom and scroll. I see how to set the touch pad buttons for this but I never use the the center track point button. I use the center click every day to open and close links in new tabs using firefox and I really miss it on my laptop, left click and "open in a new tab" is getting old fast.

FN F8 for Ultranav Options, ->Manage Settings, Ultranav Tab, Trackpoint settings, settings in scrolling function section, choose 'smooth' button. It seems to override the Thinkpad software for scrolling, and opens in new tab and whatever when on a link, scrolling function everywhere else. Let me know in a speshul way if it works :)

does the scrolling still work in firefox with the 'smooth' setting?
like, when u hold down the middle button and move the trackpoint up/down does the webpage still scroll? while opening up a new tab

yes, but its a little different than the standard setting. The icon is the icon that shows up when you would normally hit the middle mouse button and the action is different. its hard to describe but it still works very well. (and It works for me in firefox). This has been my favorite tip so far as I now use that button every day.

You could easily press ctrl and click on a link and it'll open in a new tab too.

Ah, but doing CTRL-click is much harder than just clicking ONE button - 100% harder to be exact. And I would hate to stoop down to the level of all those poor Mac users who have to do this every day! :D This fix works for me in Firefox too.

I agree TooDamFast, this is one of the Top Thinkpad Tips Of All Time!

Is there no way to have the normal thinkpad scrolling (which is much better than when you click the scroll wheel on a normal mouse) and click the middle button to open the link in a new tab?

ok, now it works in firefox. nobody said that you have "use autoscrolling" checked in firefox tools.options menu.

i really hate autoscrolling though, wish you could have regular scrolling and still use the middle mouse button to launch a link in a new tab...
