Soft dome is the standard issue I believe right now? And apparently lenovo doesn't give you the classic eraser or soft rim anymore as extras.

do you know if you can call them and ask for the classic eraser on a "build it yourself" laptop?

My X301 didn't come with any (besides the standard one already on the keyboard).
My T61 came with the noted above extras.
I guess Lenovo is getting stingy with giving away extra red nipples lol
It wouldn't hurt to give them a call to ask them, worst they can do is say no, or charge you an ungodly amount for them.

I wish you could call up the packaging person in China and beg, haha. I bet they just have a bin full of them to throw in with the plastic bag of disks and manuals.

My T400 (September 2009 build) had a bag of all three. I've got a couple of bags of them around from my last 2 or 3 machines.

They're quite cheap, actually, I believe Meritline was actually selling multipacks of them for little more than a buck shipped. People spend more than that on daily coffee ;)

Apparently the fake ones aren't very good according to lead_org and some other people, so might be worth finding a retailer that stocks the real thing.

Some guy on eBay is selling them. 2 pack for $.99 shipped. You can actually see the part number bag in the background. One is classic, the other is soft rim If you don't mind it's coming from Hong Kong. I've bought stuff from him before. In fact... the guy is probably the dude that you would be beggling to like you propose ;) Probably works there.

What's so special about the original? I assume there are 3, and Lenovo ships the soft dome only?

The Lenovo one is made in Japan, the quality of the elastomer is better, i guess they last longer.
