Hi I've a question. There are 5 buttons around the trackpad, right? 3 in a row just below the space bar, and 2 in a row at the edge of the laptop below the trackpad (I have T61). My question is, are the left and right one just below the space bar (with a middle button in between) equivalent exactly to the two below the trackpad? Is it for convenience that they build two sets of these buttons? (the middle button is not extra since there is only one)

the three buttons below the spare are for use in conjunction with the trackpoint, AKA the IBM nipple. Or what ever other combination you can come up with the move the mouse and click.

I see. I've only tried the trackpoint a few times and found it's hard to control the direction and speed. Now back to my question, so the two buttons below the trackpad (without a middle button in between) are not necessary, function-wise, correct? Whatever they do can always be accomplished by the three button above?

Hmmmm..... It's up to you whether to use the 3-button one or the 2-button one to navigate, and both of them will work perfectly no matter you are using Nipple or Trackpad, but the 2-button one is not unnecessary for everybody, such as me. Sometimes I prefer to use the 2-button one... :)

is there anyway to set up the middle button to function as a "traditional" mouse middle button? (for example, i want to use the middle button to "orbit" in sketchup and "pan" in other other visual applications.

    does anyone know about this??
