Hi there, I have a Thinkpad W510 4389-P2U and the Trackpoint and Trackpad are not working. I should mention that I had the computer apart to replace the display and the motherboard before this happened. When I put the computer back together, the Trackpoint did not work, and then shortly thereafter the Trackpad quit. I double-checked all the connectors, and everything appears to be assembled correctly. I've been using a USB mouse for about a year since that happened.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,

    Mark

Are you sure you connected the keyboard and trackpad ribbons correctly. I'd retrace your work because if it was working and doesn't now the ribbon not connected or seated is the only option.

If everything is connected properly and the trackpoint & trackpad still don't work, then it's also possible the ribbon connectors were damaged when you replaced the motherboard.

I just now reinstalled Windows 7, and at some point during that process, the trackpoint started working. Then, when I got the installation finished, the trackpoint stopped working again. This is what makes me think it's not an issue with the connectors. When I try to install the Synaptics driver, it appears to install, but then I still can't see either the trackpoint or the trackpad in the device manager. Also, I get errors saying that the Synaptics driver is not installed.

Oh. That's simple then - get a new driver. You can get one from Windows Update or Lenovo Update or directly from Lenovo's website or Synaptics.
