My friend has this clear looking tape or sticker that his school put on top of his Windows Vista sticker. I am not sure what it is and where his school gets it (he does not know either). If you guys know what I am talking about what do you think it would be called, I checked my local Staples but I am not really sure what I am looking for.

It looks like a clear tape/sticker that is over his Vista sticker on the bottom of his laptop.

is it to protect the key or something?
I'd just leave it alone or put a piece of clear packing tape over it, and use an xacto knife to cut off the extra edges.

My key is a bit torn (very slightly) and the ink is fading away, so yes it is to protect the key.

Use a copier to take a snapshot of the bottom of the notebook. That way you have a picture of everything including model and serial numbers as well as the Windows key.
