Hey guys, I've got a question.
In a few weeks, I'll be travelling to South Asia for a few months, so I'm taking my laptop with me. However, I'm a bit confused at what equipment I need to take to charge the batteries. Now, im in canada, and the voltage here is 120V, however, it is 220 where I am going. Now, I read somewhere about universal notebook power adapters, and I am wondering if the T61 has this, or whether I will be required to buy a voltage converter. Also, will the adapter accept 120-240 volts, cause i know some do, but I dun't know if thinkpads do.
Also, does anyone recommend a surge protector? Like would it be useful?

Read the label on your existing power adaptor. It should say something like 100-250V AC, 50-60Hz. It will automatically switch to the appropriate voltage.
For surge supressors you can consider either a small one for the wall socket or an inline one which fits between the power cord and the PSU. The latter are very small so I use one all the time when I am travelling.

every notebook adapter works in 120~220V,so you have 0 problems!

As John stated, nowadays, most power supplies are universal. Very convenient for us and for manufacturing!
