Tried a couple Lenovos, had problems, but still hope some model will work

Recently I tried a couple Lenovo laptops and neither one worked for me, but I still hope there is some Lenovo model that would.

I should state that my requirements are

    - 15" screen size, 1920x1080 resolution

    - good for movie watching: that means good color gamut and contrast, and relatively wide angle viewing (at least not a very narrow angle). Also I would like the graphics controls to include contrast and color corrections for movies.

    - high-moderate CPU power. I am not very familiar with all the CPUs out there, but I definitely need to do some number crunching with this computer. However I am not willing to pay 100's of dollars extra to get the very latest CPU. So just something good.

    - no specific budget. Whatever it takes to get a good laptop.

So I tried an IdeaPad 500. The main problem was that the colors were muddy, tended toward brown, and the contrast was low. Also I couldn't get the video color and contrast controls to work, but that may have been a solvable problem if I had contacted technical support.

I tried a ThinkPad P50. This had a great keyboard and it was nice that it was so powerful, but the screen viewing angle was very narrow.

So can anyone recommend a Lenovo that might work?

For those requirements, pretty much any 15" Lenovo laptop with a FHD (1920x1080) IPS display will work: even the IdeaPad 500 or 510, if it is configured with the 15" FHD IPS display, should be quite good.

What specific "number crunching" tasks will you be using your laptop for? Depending on the answer, a current-gen Core i3 or i5 could be all you need, or you might truly benefit from a Core i7 quad-core.

My "number crunching" is music and audio processing. Mostly it's my own software. It can take advantage of multiple cores. Four cores would be nice, not only for number crunching, but also because when Windows decides to use 100% of a core for update, at least I have 3 cores left. I am sure that an older, but not slow, 4-core processor would be fine.

I don't know what kind of screen I had on the IdeaPad 500 that I tried, but the colors were muddy and brownish. The controls for adjusting the color and contrast didn't work... that might have been a solvable problem if I had contacted technical support. Do you know if an IPS display always has a bright and wide color gamut? The colors on the ThinkPad were much nicer, but as I said, it had a narrow viewing angle.

    Thanks,
    Mike

If budget is no concern go get a P70. The 4k AUO IPS 90% gamut panel is a beauty to behold. There are no panels currently on the market that can surpass it, only things that come close are the older RGB LED panels found on some Alienwares/HP/Sony high end models from circa 2010
