Kinda hilarious, but I mean, holy cow, how can they expect to sell notebooks with shoddy work like that?

i would fire the person who did this photoshop work and the person whom authorised it... i couldn't tell the difference between the different laptops that they used in the picture.
It seems lately that lenovo have lot of mistakes on their websites, hopefully cost cutting is not the reason behind these.... -
The Thinkpad T410 in the picture is not a T410, since the T410 doesn't have the glossy black "lenovo" lettering on the lid - the T400 and T500, however, do.
-
I find it absolutely unbearable that the people responsible for the web page at Lenovo is doing such a half assed job in this.
Come on Lenovo put some real resources behind these, not just some year 10 students whom have no idea what they are doing.
Can't Lenovo use some actual models for these pictures, and not just a picture from somewhere and then photoshop a picture of some laptop onto them. -
This is exactly why you don't pay coders to do your photoshop work.
-
-
Would it honestly make a difference in sales numbers?
-
the graphic isn't great by any means but overall it's not a complete tragedy. i've definitely seen worse. -
... but they met their deadline. This is what happens when one puts schedule ahead of results. Nobody lost face with all the checks marked off on the checklist. They can correct pictures as needed when needed but have the new layout done.

The links line up with the pictures so I say who cares. Good for Lenovo if they want to put their financial resources in stuff that counts like actual LAPTOP DESIGN.

This is like going to your first job interview for your managerial position wearing singlet and dirty jeans, when the normal attire is business suits.
unless Lenovo does their business strictly as B2B and all their products are sold at the lowest possible market rate, in which case then the website would not matter. Like what Foxconn has, which is pretty much nothing on their website.
However, Lenovo does not produce laptops at Acer price, nor is it a strictly B2B entity like what IBM was.
Lenovo does spend a lot of money on marketing, which tries to project Lenovo as a top tier computer company.
There is no point doing a half complete job, you might as well not put anything on it., as these pictures are not that informative anyway. If they are going to put pictures there as a highlighter for their products, then they should dedicate more resources, time and efforts into this. -

Corporate customers care (or is forced to care) about uptime, pricing, financing options and business support. For corporate customers/purchasers it will have zero impact.
In addition, I have worked in the B2B industry for 11 years and trust me when saying that B2B vs. B2C does not change the level of marketing needed. Granted, the contents and messages can vary, but otherwise you need to spend just as much efforts. Some industries differ (i.e. component manufacturing), but the majority of B2B businesses need to be just as diligent, either by tier 1 marketing or assisting in tier 2 and tier 3 level marketing.
I used to be as idealistic as you, but after having working in the corporate world for about 15 years in several mid sized and big reputable MNCs across 4 continents, I have learned that one simply does not always have the luxury to do everything fully or perfect. Contribution and operating margins count. Brand image, market positioning, revenue per head count, market share, budgets and investment returns count.
Often the smaller details like the one you are pointing out with the images are often neglected because the impact is negligible at best - when looking at the greater picture (no pun intended). -
Perfection is not needed, but ideally they should be correct, otherwise what is the point of doing it in the first place. And Lenovo is making lot more mistakes of the late, much more than what they used to.
Probably i was overreacting a bit in my previous posts and a bit of a rant. -

Everybody needs to rant every now and then
Perhaps Lenovo has gone through the same cost cutting rounds as my company - which would explain the recent mistakes you refer to.
During 2009 about 35% of the staff at my company was laid off. However we are still working according to the same goals - so stress levels have been extra high. -

I think they just use stock image. On some image it look like some one just ps the laptop onto it. For example on the picture for s10-3, it look the netbook wasn't in the original photo and the netbook in the photo isn't s10-3 it look like a s10-3t or s10-2.

Fewer customers. More for me. Muwahahahahaha.

thinkpad knows best Notebook Deity
Oh? I've never met someone who enjoys higher prices...

Anyone see the new url not found page? What is up with the use of stock photography--are the people even holding thinkpads? They are looking more and more like a generic chinese company. http://shop.lenovo.com/SEUILibrary/...l/en_US/seutil.workflow:ShowIncompleteURLPage
This is actually ridiculous--i agree with lead_org. I'm sorry, but it is an utter fail on every level. As an advertisement, the message they try to portray is: we have well designed laptops tailored to unique individuals. Poorly photoshopped stock photography is the utter antithesis of this message.
And it isn't so much that this one page is going to lose Lenovo appreciable sales, but it speaks to how much they clearly feel that their image is important. I hate to throw out the apple card, but could you see this kind of work by them? Or even dell or hp right now? They already are fighting a uphill battle with their image as boring business only machines (and arguably, one as a shoddy chinese company too). The irony is they are actually well designed systems--you just couldn't tell by the material they put out.
When you are IBM and can live off of your reputation in the b2b and even b2c market and to some extent that is passable (though even for ibm it as a $ losing endeavour too at the end). But for lenovo now, who doesn't offer the wealth of other IT infrastructure that big blue did, i think image is of the utmost importance, even just to retain their traditional business customer base. If you are HP (and less so for Dell and one point IBM), it's simple: we make your servers, your workstations, your printers, your network devices, buy our notebooks too. For Lenovo, what do they have to offer? Just their image now, which they are not doing a particularity good job keeping up. Stock imagery of people in business suits using photoshopped thinkpads is not going to convince the IT department shell out for another round of leases. Combine that with the fact that, lets be frank, are their systems that much if at all better than the business offerings of HP/Dell now? IMHO, that is why seeing this kind of work sets off alarm bells and is a slippery slope for them. -
i think this thread has run its course. forums have enough complaint threads as it is. let's stick with something more positive and productive.
if you want to improve lenovo's image and branding, apply for a job in their design, marketing, or advertising department.
Truly horrible photoshopped images at Lenovo...
