Ok. So many of the admins here, and possibly some general members may know (based on if you've been to this section before) that in a few days, I will be getting a Thinkpad r60. That has been established. But I have a list of questions that maybe some of you could answer.

Here is what is going to be in my laptop...

    1) I currently own a weezing hp zd8000. The fans are pretty much always running. Always. As in they have never turned off. Lol. It runs lava hot and sucks. I hate it. Will the r60 be guaranteed much quieter than my lava hot- more like a yard tool notebook I have now?

    2) Will I be able to take the RAM out of my HP laptop and use it in my r60 if my r60 is coming with 1 dim of 512mb?

    3) Is the little amber ThinkLight a gimmic? I mean, does it like burn out if you use it more than 5 minutes like those LED flashlights you can buy at any gas station? Or is it actually durable and useful for a night I prefer to basque in the dark?

    4) Could I put in on a soft surface such as a fabric couch or a bed without having the laptop overheat like some other laptops today? On my HP zd8000 right now, there are three huge fans on the bottom that are like tiny vacuums, so I can't put it on a soft surface or else the inside of my laptop is dead.

    5) Is there anything about the mechanics of the laptop that are a con when put up against HP (other than the crappy speaker placement...i know about that)? (not like the specs. I mean like fan placement, the amount of fans, the durability and quality of the usb ports (ive have really crappy usb ports and usb port placement on my HP.)

    6) Is the CD drive made by matisha? I got a DVD-Rom 8x ultrabay enhanced. I ask because my hp has a matisha and it sucks.

    7) who makes the hard drives in lenovos? Or at least the 60GB 7200rpm harddrive I got.

thanks for reading and thanks ahead of time if you respond.

The HP you have may just have a lot of dust clogged in the intakes under the notebook. If you clean them out, they may just fix how much the fans are on. You can use the RAM from the R60 in the HP, but if you have 400 MHz RAM in the HP, then the R60 will also clock down to 400 MHz. This shouldn't affect performance, as your Celeron 420 will also run on a 400 Mhz FSB. Pretty much all notebooks can't be placed on soft surfaces, as most of them pull air from the underside, and blow it outward from the outlet vent. Sorry I can't answer all the questions, as I'm not too sure about them.

I don't think we give out guarantees here.

I don't think the memory from your HP is gonna work since the R60 uses DDR2.

I have never know a ThinkLight to go out. It works well in a dark room.

Running in low power mode will help with the heat. My R60 has been very cool and quiet.

I think they use some LG drives as well.

I have only seen Hitachis for the 7200RPM drives, but have seen other drive makers used for 5400RPM drives.
