I have a R61 with the intel 1GB turbomemory. After some good reading I realized that the 1GB setup is actually partitioned into two 512MB cache's. One used for turbo memory and one used for readyboost. This does not allow me to use a larger thumbstick with readyboost because it states that a cache already exists.

Has anyone turned off the Readyboost on the the intel 1GB turbomemory console? Or can everyone already use the 1GB + a thumbstick and its just me? Also, will Vista reformat the turbo memory to use all 1GB for the drive cache?

    Any thoughts appreciated.

you need to turn off Readboost on the intel turbomemory console before you can use readyboost from another device. (this should be fixed in the future it think with the Robson 2.0 chip? i could be wrong though)

Yeah, just turn off the ReadyBoost under the TurboMemory Console and then enable your ReadyBoost via your SD card.

if you turn off ReadyBoost, is it possible to use the entire 1GB for ReadyDrive, or do you end up with unused 512MB?

I honestly cannot answer that one because I do not know, I "hope" that it is using the other 512MB towards ReadyDrive but that's just an assumption.

from what i have been reading it looks like you cant change the "internal partition" of the intel chip. Both the technologies are in their infancies and should be improving. I found a standalone meter for readyboost but not for Readydrive. So it looks like you get only 512 (readydrive) not matter how you swing it. Im sure intel and 3rd pary companies will be selling larger cards soon.

this is from intel's site. IMO it suggests that only 512 is supported right now. Otherwise I assume they would list options for setting up the full GB for either Readydrive, Readyboost or both.

"1 If the IntelĀ® Turbo Memory module is 512MB, only Microsoft Windows ReadyDrive* is supported; you will not be able to enable Microsoft Windows ReadyBoost*."
