Why do I have to upgrade the processor to a T7300 (has unappealing antenna) if I want turbo memory?

As far as I can tell the Turbo Memory is not available if you select 512MB Ram. If I select 1GB or more I can select the Turbo Memory no matter what CPU you want. So Turbo Memory and T7100 is possible.

Also Turbo Memory and WWAN can not be selected together because the use the same slot on the mainboard.

Robson (Intel Turbo Memory) most certainly will work with T7100. There must be a bug currently with 512mb Ram systems.

i would choose to get the turbo memory. however, i am not sure what exactly i will be losing out on. can someone explain what the loss of WWAN will mean.
    thanks

WWAN (also known as HSDPA) is internet through your cell phone provider. It is faster than dialup but a far cry from "good" broadband.

Verizon and Cingular are the two options Lenovo provides.
It's pretty expensive per month but can be used for 24 hours for a lower fee. Still expensive but convenient at times.

I would choose the turbo memory as well though. You can always use a express/pcmcia card for WWAN access.

weigh your own needs. If you travel a lot and need 24/7 internet connection, then the WWAN is very nice. I dont need it 24/7, but have used it on my dell m1210 with verizon and have been pleased. The price needs to come down, but the evdo speeds are more than acceptable, and you dont have to rely on wifi hotspots when traveling. Now if you dont travel a lot and need this, then def get the Robson

US site. I still can't add the turbo memory option for x61 or x61s. Here is exactly what I do:

    1. Click the continue button under x61 or x61s.

    2. Click the upgrade to 1gig ram

I don't touch anything else, and it wont let me upgrade turbo memory. I've tried multiple browsers.

I'm pissed off because I want to know why this works for others but not me. Also, if the others who claim it works are doing something differently, then perhaps the turbo cache does require the T7300 (not just a marketing scheme?)... I'll call later and find out.

Any update on this? I was trying to order the same thing (2.0 mhz processor with turbo memory on a X61). Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

And just to reiterate - turbo memory is only available on the X61 with the T7500 processor, not the T7300 or the T7100.

It still doesnt work with the T7100, but it works fine with the 7300 as long as you select 1gig of ram. I just tried it.

That link doesnt work, and I was talking about the x61. The x61 will not allow turbo memory with the T7100 under ANY conditions. However, it lets me select turbo memory with the T7300 as long as I have 1 gig of ram selected. Do you have 1 gig of ram selected?

Yes, I'm talking about the X61 as well. That link works fine for me. Try again - click
    HERE

If you click ANY of these:
    1) 12.1" XGA TFT and Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7100 (1.80GHz, 2MB L2, 800MHz FSB) [subtract $50.00]

    2) 12.1" XGA TFT and Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7300 (2.0GHz, 4MB L2, 800MHz FSB), 2x2 UltraConnect II antenna [$0.00]

    3) 12.1" XGA TFT and Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7300 (2.0GHz, 4MB L2, 800MHz FSB), 2x3 Ultraconnect II antenna

And go down to Total Memory and choose either:
    1) 1 GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz SODIMM Memory (2 DIMM) [subtract $10.00]

    2) 1 GB PC2-5300 DDR2 SDRAM 667MHz SODIMM Memory (1 DIMM)

Then go down to "Intel® Turbo Memory hard drive cache", the "Intel Turbo Memory 1GB [add $50.00]" option is GREYED OUT and you cannot select it.

It only becomes selectable when you choose the following processor and select any other memory option than the 512:

    12.1" XGA TFT and Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7500 (2.2GHz, 4MB L2, 800MHz FSB) [add $110.00] [New]

Again that link you posted doesnt work for me, it just says session expired. I don't know what to tell you, but I can select the 7300 with turbo memory. Are you going through the US site? Did you click on Home, small business, or was it through the educational site? Try deleting the cookies from lenovo.

I clicked that very link, and it worked fine. It also works fine if I navigate normally to the regular store, and it works with my IBM SPP discount store. I can't imagine what's wrong - You select the T7300, you select at least 1GB of RAM, and you're set - you can select Turbo Memory. Try clearing your browser cache completely. If it still doesn't work, then just call.

Well good to know Lenovo isn't trying to make people go crazy (except for me of course!). Thanks for the help guys, but I wish you were sitting here with me! I have gone to 3 different computers in the office and am now sitting at my laptop at home and still see the same thing - no Turbo memory available when T7300 or T7100 options for the X61 are selected.

I don't have PDF on this computer, so I took some print screens for you all - maybe I'm doing something really REALLY stupid? Please verify for me..

I think I'm going crazy..gonna get some sleep and try again in the morning.

Try firefox. BTW, i noticed all those funny characters on your browser, and that probably has something to do with it. Is that chinese? Japanese? Maybe lenovo's website is detecting that character set and adjusting the options. I dunno, but what else could it be?
