I am configuring a T500. It seems that the turbo memory and SSD can not be chosen at the same time. Anyone know the reason for this? Is it because they are installed at the same place?
Just want to make sure if I choose turbe memory now, I will be able to remove it and upgrade to SSD later on.
Another question, is turbo memory useful? does it worth $40?
-
turbo memory is pointless and has been actually shown to decrease performance under some conditions
do not add turbo memory -
It's because the SSD will likely be faster than the Turbo Memory, rendering it pretty much pointless, since it would decrease performance in that case.
Yes, you can remove it later - it is not in the same place as the HDD/SSD. No, it is not worth $40. -
There is no comparison, an SSD is so much better. The reason you can't select both is that "Turbo Memory" would slow the SSD down. As a case in point, Windows 7 will not allow me to enable ReadyBoost (basically the same as Turbo Memory) because my SSD is so fast.

Thank you very much. I will use that $40 to buy another 2G memory.

turbo memory does help with battery life if:
the particular ssd involved is a power hog
and
the alternative hdd is good at power savings
the reason they're not offered together is because Lenovo offers the TM as a discounted deal, and it's off when you get the SSD, same as the XP downgrade (at least that's how it was last year) -
I dont want to start new topic so I will write here
How about Wireless USB PAN ? I know that this "standard" Is available for a quite long time. I guess it appeared on T61 series ? Never mind this.
How to know if I have it or not ?
At the laptop configurator is Note: Selection of Intel Turbo Memory hard drive cache does not allow a configuration with Integrated UWB Wireless PAN.
Thats because they use same slot I guess ...
I choosed SSD so where the hell is my UWB PAN?
Or maybe this is because I have Intel 5350 with WiMax and this needs more antennas ? lol
I dont think its bluetooth pan too !
Cheers -
I have NEVER seen a Wireless USB device in the wild. In fact, the Ultra Wide Band group shuttered a few months back. In short, don't waste your money.
