    I'm going to be getting a 767593U (X61, 2.2, 2gb ram, dvdburner, 160gb 7200RPM) with hopefully Windows XP pre-installed if our supplier will do that. Most likely I will have to use Vista.

    • Have the Vista problems with Turbo memory been mostly fixed with newer drivers?
    • If I encouter BSODs, will disabling the Turbo memory through software be sufficient? Or would I be better off going for non-turbo memory model, even if it it means lesser specs?
    • Turbo memory doesn't work under XP, so this would be a non-issue if I had turbo memory in the notebook and using XP. Correct?

    Thanks for your help

    The driver problems have been fixed, there are no card related issues under XP.

    Thanks for your reply. Just to clarify, driver problems have been fixed with Vista?

    no, the new drivers have not fixed every issue, if you do have issues, all you do is to disable the hybrid disc power saving option in power management and it will solve your problems

    @eyecon,
    Is that hybrid disc power option the only issue that remains...? Just curious about this is this something you set or is it a default setting?

    With latest drivers I have had zero issues with turbo memory. I even put back on the hard drive motion software and still have had no more blue screens. I would say it resolved the issues enough that it has become a non-issue for several users.

    Early on this was reported to cause problems, so like others I removed it and did not use it for some time. But about two months ago they updated several drivers so I back up myu system and took the plunge. I have been ROCK SOLID with not so much as system freeze in an application since that time. My hardware in in my signature and my software list provides some pretty taxing times for the T61P. That is my experience and I wish everyones experience could be this satisfying.

    I have the same problems; mostly with Firefox. I thought it was corrupt, so I reinstalled FF several times to no avail.

    Found out through searching the net that the problem was due to TM and Hybrid Disk Power Saving.

    I've disabled HDPS for now, but don't think its a very elegant solution. I rely on battery power a lot for my field research.

    I have the latest system drivers as well. So, to answer the OP's question - no, not fixed yet.

    I just had a look at a few of the hotfixes listed in the tech release for SP1, and found no mention of Hybrid Disk Power Saver or Turbo Memory issues being addressed. That doesn't mean that it won't be fixed, but who knows...

    Documents can be found here.
