I was in a T61 today and the keyboard cable ripped. Unit will not power on now.

Is there any way I can get this to turn on without the keyboard?

Plug in a USB keyboard see if it could boot.

That would not work since the power switch is integrated into the keyboard.

The only way to fix that is to call Lenovo and let them send you a new keyboard.
Lenovo is quite good at keyboard sevices and you could get the keyboard within 2 days. They use DHL overnight to ship it. And that's free if your warranty is not expired.
    Good Luck

We ended up ordering one from ebay. The problem with warranty is I broke it myself ... it didn't fail. And it's not the type of thing that one could fake as being a failure.

Just called Lenovo and told them the story. 3 year accidental damage coverge covered the problem.

Looks like I'll be selling the ebay keyboard in a while

It's just amazing that we people are talking a lot of "issues", Lenovo is doing their part of good things. Everyone should relax and knowing ThinkPad is a solid machine with solid support.

I definitely can't complain about the service. I got someone that I could understand. As much as I love Dell, I always get someone that I can barely understand.

LOL, one time I called United and could barely understand what "Joe" was talking, so I asked for the manager...and got a F word and hung up on me.
